It feels like all we have talked about for the last 12 weeks is weather. Snow, cold, is it every going to end. Here it is April 21 and the high today was 6 with the low being -4. But the difference today is that the sun has been shining and the sky is blue blue without a cloud anywhere. After breakfast zoom-zoom was calling me and saying let's go for a ride. So I loaded up my cameras and off I went. Headed north to the cottage. Lots of cars on the highway until just north of Barrie and then it was clear sailing with the tunes on.
Yes, it was shocking there were still lots of little pockets of snow left on the way up. What would I find at the cottage? Surprise!!
Not only ice, but the docks were underwater. I grabbed the sheets off the bed, which felt like a block of ice, my fingers were freezing by the time I got them off, and continued on my journey.
On the way up there was lots of talk about flooding and road closures in Bracebridge and Huntsville so I headed over to Bala to see what the falls were like. Pretty impressive, no wonder Hydro wants to put in a facility there. The noise from the falls was unbelievable, I don't think I could sleep anywhere near there. This man was sitting by the little church in Bala where the falls were running by, he looked like he was praying, some of his rocks were starting to crumble away.

A couple of little icicles still surviving. |

The water was just thundering in this one spot and kaboom up went the spray |
From Bala I continued on my merry way down hwy 38 to the 400, it was the type of day where you could have driven for hours. I made one more stop on the way home at the Port Severn Locks. Just a beautiful day for a little walk around. I don't know if I had ever been there before. It is hard to watch the power of mother nature come thundering through the locks and think that 3 months from now we will be worried about the low water levels in Georgian Bay.
Thank you to my little zoom zoom (mazda 3) for doing such a great job today. I forgot how much I loved to drive (other than in Toronto) and how beautiful our province is. And yes by next weekend the last of the snow and ice should be gone.
O:)
