Kitchen Table is freshened up with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

What to do on a snowy day?  How to get through the winter.  Well all the paint I bought in Schomberg is just dying to get out and brighten up my house and my mood.

The question is what should I start on, I have 4 projects I am thinking of.  Well me being me why not start on the biggest, most annoying and just get it out of the way.

I have been wanting to paint/stain my 28 year old solid oak kitchen table for about 8 years.  I phoned about getting the chairs done and found a place in town that would do them for $200 EACH.  Are you CRAZY.  I could buy knew ones for that.  Well maybe if I went back to 1989 :).

This table has had a ton of meals at it.  Family, friends, celebrations have been centred around this table for a number of years.  It has a few interesting marks in it.  There is one where I asked Andrew if someone had bit the table as it looked like teeth marks.  I gather when you smunch a beer cap into a wood table you get a lovely little impression of a wee set of false teeth.

Well around about now I could feel my dad breathing down my neck saying, "Are you mental" "You don't paint over solid Oak."  Ooops.  I just kept going.  I had a vision of an old white kitchen set and nothing was stopping me.

The neat thing about the chalk paint is that you don't have to sand, you just paint right over whatever it is you are painting.  It doesn't have to be wood, it can be mason jars, metal, indoor or outdoor.  Very versatile.  Might have to be taking some to the cottage with me.

Yes that can says French Linen, which is the colour I bought for a dresser.  As with anything with me, the plans tend to evolve.  I loved the white but thought the chairs would look great with a different colour on the table top and then thought why not also do the captain's chairs the same colour as the table top.  :)

How could I not resist putting in a wee bit of distressing on my distressed chairs.

Patience is not one of my virtues.  It was killing me not to attack the top of the table, but no the chairs had to be done first.  Thank goodness for Michael Buble, he is great painting music.  Also great cooking music, great cleaning music.  Michael goes with everything in my house.  :)

Well 2 coats of paint, 2 coats of wax and they are pretty much finished.  I am so excited.  The neat thing about the French Linen colour is that with all the windows in the kitchen it is a different colour depending totally on how much light is coming in.  So every meal feels like a different table.

Now what to do next.  ??????????

    1. Thanks Michelle & Michael. Can't wait to start my next project. Thinking it will be a little smaller than the kitchen set.
